Talk:Mathematics of theoretical physics
Being that the title of this page is "Mathematics of theoretical physics" perhaps a better place for the "Basic Mathematics" section would be in a page "Mathematics of Classical Physics" or ideally in a page aimed at an introduction to basic math, where a more rigorous and complete explanation of those topics could be contained. Ideally this could be broken down into separate pages, that this one could refer the reader to. I believe it would be in the best interest of keeping this concise to assume the reader has mastered single variable calculus, and has some quantitative understanding of classical mechanics, and build up from there. Beneath multi-variable calculus it is difficult to justify the content of the page as mathematics pertaining to theoretical physics specifically. A good test would be to ask "is there a motivating example for this topic, that is an example of theoretical physics" (not purely mathematical, or an example of classical mechanics). - Saneisjus 19:08, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
