Matrix version would be nice.

And the modulus minimization actually is used in Ecology, Economics (and yes, Econophysics).

This lesson is targeted to 1st year students of Physics which begin doing things in the lab and are requested to find the linear approximation of the values they've measured. But I'm aware the lesson is taught to other people too, so I'm adding it to the school of Mathematics, where it belongs. We from the school of Physics only have to link to it.

The last section was written speedily, so it could be expanded. But its content doesn't really belong here, but as an example of the lesson of minimizing functions of n variables (Calculus II, concretely partial derivatives). --Jorge 01:10, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
