Book content
editDoes this belong in Wikibooks? --Remi 01:04, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
- There will always be a certain overlap between Wikibooks and Wikiversity. Anyone may create a book on Wikiboosk from resources on Wikiversity, transwiki is recommended with user history, particularly if there is more than one contributor. Likewise, if some book on Wikibooks is facing deletion there, but has some possible educational value, it could be transwikied to Wikiversity. (The same for Wikipedia articles, by the way, though this is rarely done.)
- However, the comment above was made when the page looked like this. That content was not appropriate for here, nor for Wikibooks. It's an encyclopedic article (and not correct, in fact, in the lede, there is an obvious error,), the article is not a learning resource covering home economics, as it was when it was started, it's an article about the field of home economics.
- While those were the wild and wooly days of Wikiversity, that this loss of actual educational material was allowed, apparently not even noticed, is diagnostic of wiki dysfunction. We will need much better organization to clean this up and prevent it from recurring.
- Essentially, to be maximally useful, Wikiversity needs reliable process, the same as any wiki. We have gotten much, much better, but we need even more.
- I have edited the resource to restore the home ec material and encourage expansion, and I am considering removing the "history of home economics" material and replacing it with a Wikipedia link. We do not need to fork Wikipedia where there is no controversy that Wikipedia doesn't cover adequately, and no educational value added here (as by setting up discussion of the topic, which is generally prohibited on Wikipedia.) --Abd (discuss • contribs) 19:40, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
