God does not exist?

edit

I reverted insertions of comments by an anonymous editor.[1], "GOD DOES NOT EXIST!"

Someone seems very certain. If they'd like to discuss this, this could be a place. What does not exist? And why would someone be so certain about the non-existence of a thing? Surely to be certain, one would have to have comprehensive knowledge of the thing, and how is that possible for something that does not exist? More likely, this represents an emotional reaction to aspects of the history of the individual, to complex views held by others, and their behavior, which the individual is rejecting.

I once gave a presentation on Islam at a small college in North Carolina. A student stood up and said, assertively, "I don't believe in God." "Great," I said. "What is it that you don't believe in?"

He sputtered for a moment, and then I said, "The 'God' you don't believe in, I don't believe in either." He had nothing to say, I don't think this is the answer he expected, he was not prepared for this. However, this dialog could be an opening into a conversation which touches on the deepest philosophical questions, including the meaning of "meaning," and whether "reality" exists, let alone "God." --Abd 13:50, 11 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
