Perfect Tense
editIn learning french at both the Alliance Francaise and High School I've never learnt the Passe Compose tense as the Perfect Tense. Looking in my verbs book or any french textbook, I find no referrence to the perfect tense. Perhaps it should be mentioned that the Perfect tense is more commonly referred to as passe compose. This article also contains no information on the verbs that use etre as an auxiliary verb. --spuzzdawg 07:34, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- I agree. I think the name of the whole section should be changed to the title "passé composé," perhaps mentioning that its English translation is "perfect tense." I'd change it myself, but this is the first Wikiversity page I've visited and am unfamiliar with its policy. -76.10.66.192 20:22, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
I agree with Spuzzdawg about the "être" auxiliary; it is not mentioned at all although it is used as well. I am thinking about changing the lesson in that way and then add a table with very commonly used French verbs and their corresponding auxiliary in order to know which one to use with which verb.
There is also nothing about the concordance of the past participle. I don't know, maybe it is a little too soon in the course but I don't really see where to put it otherwise. Beside, the concordance with the "être" auxiliary is very simple, it is with the "avoir" auxiliary where it is more complicated.

Ok, so after reading the next lesson about the pronouns I think that maybe the order of those two lessons should be reversed, this way, it would be easy to explain the concordance with the "avoir" auxiliary.
