"Portuguese"
editThe arrival of Portuguese and other immigrant labor in association with the Roanoke Canal is well documented. Paul has taken a stance on the use of the term "Portuguese" that does not align with how it was applied in the community. To the best of my knowledge only two mixed-race families actually identified as Portuguese. Both lines, appear in the 1790 but have not been confirmed to be tied back to Paul's research in the late 1600s'. Supposedly, the two mixed-race families were from different West Indies islands - not Hispaniola or the neighboring Spanish speaking islands of Cuba, Puerto Rico. 174.109.42.119 (discuss) 22:58, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
