Provide Virtual Machine images?

Disclaimer: I am newer to the wikiversity culture and don't know how everything is setup. Would it be possible to host VM images with all of the needed development environment already setup? There could be a different VM for each of the major OS out there. For a really nice setup there could be a small program on the VMs which would sync code examples off of wikiversity. I don't know if this is possible given the size of VM images. Also, there would be significant bandwidth concerns with people downloading multi gb files. Just a thought for a 'nice to have' feature.
