Definition of an indicator edit

The substance which is used to test whether the given substance is acidic or basic in nature is called an indicator.A type of indicators which are found naturally are called natural indicators.

Examples of an indicator edit

Turmeric, China rose petals, litmus, red cabbage etc.

Acids edit

vinegar (acetic acid)

Orange, lemons (citric acid)

Curd (lactic acid)

Grapes, Tamarind (tartaric acid)

soap solution

Baking soda

The effect of turmeric indicator on acidic and basic solution edit

Turmeric paper (yellow colour) turns into red when it is dipped into basic solution. And it does not change its colour with acid.

Effect on China Rose edit

We can use China rose petals (pink colour) as an indicator which turns acidic solutions to dark pink and basic solutions to green.
