Status of Education System in The Philippines

There are three agencies that have been created through various republic acts that comprises the education system in the Philippines. They are the Department of Education (DepEd) for basic education from Kinder to senior high school, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for college and graduate education and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authorities (TESDA0 for various technical and vocational education and training.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic, face to face classes were suspended and the schools were closed all over the Philippines. But this must not be a reason to stop the department from giving quality education to pupils. To continue with the learning, the education sector recommended a new way of learning which is the online learning. But there are many problems that occur in online learning. Poor students do not have the money to constantly have access to the internet. Another problem is for those who live in remote places where internet signal is too weak or completely absent. Because of these problems another learning modality was introduced. It is the printed modular learning modality which is commonly used modality in remote areas like ours. In this kind of modality, the parents or guardians of the pupils is scheduled to go to school to get the printed modules and other activity sheets to be accomplish by the pupils at home. The teacher's duty is to monitor them and help them in accomplishing their tasks using different platforms. The teacher can also send video lessons for their better understanding or they can call or text the pupils or the guardians for monitoring. Others use radio or television as their learning modality. Some are using the blended learning modality which is the combination of all the other modalities mentioned.

Our education sector really find ways to continue the education of our pupils even in this difficult time of pandemic. Whatever learning modality we are using the most important thing is that we always find ways to help our pupils and their parents in coping with this new modality of teaching and learning in our country. We must not stop praying that this pandemic ends so that we could go back to our normal lives.
