Portal talk:Wiki Scholar/About the movie
I really like this explanation of the meaning(s) behind the movie, and thanks for providing this John. It's funny though - I was expecting an explanation of how you made the movie (and I suspect others will do, or have done, likewise). Maybe you could add a brief account of how to create an animated gif - either here or on a dedicated page? Just an idea.. Cormaggio beep 17:55, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
How the movie was made
editFirst, I use a Macintosh. I make use of ClarisDraw and Photoshop for creating images. The baby is based on a digitized scan of a photograph of my son. I made a series of still images and then used Morpher to "morph" between the still images. GraphicConverter is good for converting between image formats and can be used to put all of the resulting images of the "movie" into an animated gif. --JWSchmidt 18:33, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
the “versity” part
editI like separating the wiki from the versity. This "versity" is a blessing and at the same time a curse for WV. It can be good since it attracts people because of the image of an university. But at the same time this also restricts their imagination to a real world university :-( A wiki is just different - you can not apply real world models/roles (always/at all). Perhaps we can somehow make in the animation appear words which also have the "versity", like diversity ? ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat (try) 19:44, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- Sure. --JWSchmidt 20:58, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- Perhaps we can identify some other words with "versity", see e.g. here.
- If not, we could make some up, e.g. controversity (from controversial) - but then people would say, we don't even know the language :-)
- Or let fade in/out from some words like controversial -> versity -> wikiversity
- The above word is just an example, we could think of others. ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat (try) 00:50, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
