To upload files that you have created and own the license to, visit Upload Wizard at Wikimedia Commons. This is the best and easiest way to upload and share your files for use at Wikiversity and all other Wikimedia Projects! They have better tools and excellent volunteers to help solve your copyright-related needs. You can search Commons for existing media and read Commons:Licensing to learn what Commons accepts.

For files not accepted by Commons, Wikiversity accepts open content, public domain, and fair use works. See Wikiversity:Uploading files to learn more about what files Wikiversity accepts. We require that files clearly state the source, copyright, author, and license information. Files without the necessary source and license information will be deleted.

To upload a file:

1. Choose the source file.

2. Copy the following, including {{, |, =, and }}, and paste it into the Summary box below.

{{Information
|Description=
|Source=
|Date=
|Author=
|Permission=
}}

3. Fill in information for:

  • Description - A description of the file.
  • Source - A URL or other information identifying the source of the file. If this is your own work, use {{own}}.
  • Date - Date of copyright from the original source. If this is your own work, use the creation date. Dates in ISO 8601 format are preferable, such as “2006-01-15” for 15 January 2006.
  • Author - The original creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who had ownership rights. If this is your own work, put your real name and your linked username in parentheses.
  • Permission - The permission that allows Wikiversity to host this file. Must be "open content", "public domain", "fair use", or one of the corresponding Wikiversity:License tags.

4. Choose the corresponding Licensing option at the bottom of this page. Files without source information and license permission will be deleted.

To use any uploaded file, type [[File:My_File_Name.jpg]] in the learning resource. See Help:Media to learn more about how to include media in learning resources.
