LaserCutter/RepairLaserCutter

Setup

edit
  • Air compressor was bolted to countertop
  • Distilled water is circulated through bucket under countertop
  • Alignment was done using normal receipt paper from a cash register
  • RetinaEngrave software .. userid and password are needed
  • Machine was validated off line to sfoerster who has the validation file
  • Laser printer has slow speed port that doesn't negotiate with gigabit hubs very well ... had to hook to slow speed port in the wiring closet.
  • Laser printer uses protocol/port that most institutional firewalls block. Technical details of this are unknown.
  • RetinaEngrave software can be setup on a variety of machines in the classroom, and conceivably the laser could be remotely operated through network, but this is not feasible. Don't want students accidentally interrupting or starting a cut without standing next to the laser. The trouble is that the RetinaEngrave software broadcasts and finds the laser with no trouble through the network, making the control point this software. Don't install it everywhere.
