- Topic analysis, which is used to find out the facts, concepts, and principles to be taught to learners
- Procedural analysis, which is used to clarify the steps and substeps in a procedure or task to be taught to learners
- Critical incidence analysis, which is used to analyze the cognitive behaviors involved in unstructured, complex procedures, such as diagnosing health
