ZOTHE'CA. A small private chamber or cabinet, adjoining a larger one, and affording privacy for business or study. Plin. Ep. ii. 17. 21.
2. A niche, for a statue or other object (Inscript. ap. Orelli. 1368. ap. Murat. 690. 2.), like the central recess in the annexed engraving (Zotheca/2.1), which represents one side of a sepulchral chamber excavated near Rome.
