PULVINA'TUS. Having a full or swelling contour, like a bolster or cushion; whence applied as a technical term by architects to the capitals of Ionic columns, the sides of which, formed by the lateral part of the volute, present a round or swelling shape, like a bolster as shown by the annexed example (Pulvinatus/1.1) from a capital belonging to the temple of Minerva Polias.
