POPI'NO. Literally, one who frequents taverns and eating-houses (popinae); thence, by implication, a glutton, debauchee, or person of disorderly habits, because such places were chiefly resorted to by people of low rank, or of idle and dissolute character. Hor. Sat. ii. 7. 39. Suet. Gramm. 15.
