OBTURA'CULUM and OBTURAMEN'TUM. A stopper, bung, or cork, for closing the mouth of a bottle, jar, or anything of a like nature, sometimes made of cork, and sometimes of glass. (Marcell. Empir. 35. Plin. H. N. xvi. 13.) The example (Obturaculum/1.1) represents a glass bottle and stopper, from a Pompeian painting.
