LI'MUS. A petticoat, reaching from the waist to the feet, and ornamented with a band or stripe of purple colour, all round the bottom of the skirt. It was the proper costume of the Popa, who officiated at the sacrifice, and is distinctly shown by the annexed example (Limus/1.1), from the Vatican Virgil. Virg. Aen. xii. 120. Servius ad l. Compare Tiro. ap. Gell. xii. 3.
