FERRA'RIUS, sc. faber, or absolutely. A smith, blacksmith, armourer, who works in iron, as contradistinguished from other metals. (Plaut. Rud. ii. 6. 47. Inscript. ap. Spon. Miscell. Antiq. p. 66.) The engraving (Ferrarius/1.1) represents Vulcan and his companions at their forge, from a Roman bas-relief.
