CATAPULTA'RIUS (καταπελτικός). Any thing used with, or belonging to, a catapult; hence pilum catapultarium (Plaut. Curc. iii. 5. 11.), a dart of large and heavy description, made for the purpose of being projected from the catapulta. (Compare Polyb. xi. 11. 3.) The illustration (Catapultarius/1.1) is taken from the Column of Trajan, and also affords an insight into the manner of using and working these engines.
