Hydraulic tables and chairs design

This article is about making a hydraulic table/chairs. It has been taken from my website.

Objective edit

To decrease the unnecessairy use of energy required for heating unused spaces within the house, hereby decreasing financial expendatures and GHG-emissions.

Means edit

To cooperate with a company, specialized in retractable beds and other space-conserving furniture to design and market tables and chairs that are retractable into the floor via a hydraulic system. The added cost of creating a space into which each decent takes place is greater than the cost of stationary furniture. The hydraulic system adds further cost for hardware, high pressure tubes, electric service, access for service, drainage in first floor applications and protective means to prevent damage to adults, babies, animals and other contents.

Designs edit

  • Design 1: a round table with round seats; see the schematic on the right
  • Design 2: a basic (low) table; no seats are present, instead, dining is done on the table while sitting in seiza

Note edit

The hydraulic system would be imbedded into the foot of the furniture, thus doubling as a primary support aswell as retraction system.

By means of hydraulicly retractible tables and chairs, extra space can be conserved , reducing costs and GHG-emissions by decreasing the use of energy for heating the space. Also, rooms can now be used at full, and cleaning made easier. Especially in places where land is very expensive (e.g. Japan and especially its Tokio-region) this retractible furniture would be extra cost-effective.
