History of the Crusades/The Seventh Crusade

Jerusalem had only been briefly recaptured by the Sixth Crusade before being lost once more. A new crusade was launched by the king of France Louis IX, also known as the Pious.
Events of the Crusade edit
The crusaders once again chose Egypt as their target. Arriving at Damietta, they captured the city easily after the garrison deserted. Like in the Fifth Crusade, the crusaders proceeded south. They won a few victories but were unable to capture Cairo. After being cut off from Damietta, they were starved and were forced to surrender. Once more, the crusaders were forced to abandon Egypt.[1]
