Hepatology/Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)

Pathogenesis edit

- A study in China showed that body fat influences the development of NAFLD (as well as insulin resistance) in obese children.[1]

Complications edit

Hepatocarcinogenesis edit

- It was shown that in NAFLD, CD4 counts are decreased through the increased production of ROS. This process is mediated by disturbed mitochondrial metabolism of fatty acids. Reversal of this process may be effective in delaying the progression into HCC.[2]

Treatment edit

A trial that was done in Russia to evaluate the usage of Remaxol (apparently succinic acid and methionine) in patients with NASH showed relief of symptoms and biochemical improvement.[3]
