Summary edit

Description

Schematic overview of key DFTD genome sequencing concepts. The DFTD genome in any present day Tasmanian devil suffering from this cancer contains a combination of germline and private variants present in the original animal (the founder devil) in which the cancer first arose approximately three decades ago, and somatic mutations acquired by the transmitted clonal and sub-clonal lineages since then. Phylogeographic analyses of the evolution of DFTD across Tasmania have been richly informed by a knowledge of these somatic variants.
