Summary

Description
English: This photograph is one of a series showing different stages in building a railway bridge. This photograph shows a steam-driven pile-driver on the rails on the part of the bridge which is already complete. The pile-driver will hammer the vertical piles into the bed of the river.

The existing road bridge can be seen in the background. Between the two bridges Royal Engineers are preparing the timbers they need for more piles.
