Summary

Description The energies of ortho- and parahydrogen and two significant mixtures (unit on y-axis is kelvin). The equilibrium mixture is that obtained when a catalyst is present to allow for ortho-para interconversion. 3:1 is the ortho:para ratio at room temperature that will persist if no catalyst is present during cooling. Unfortunately, the label on the y-axis is wrong: it is not “molar rotational energy E/R” but “rotational energy ER/kB (K)”
