His health continued to grow worse; he became verythin; suffered with anorexia, emissions and weakness ofthe sexual organs, dull headache, despondency and lack ofconfidence. Upon examination I found the meatus red, inflamed,and the lips glued together. There was a granular ulcerin the fossa navicularis about an inch behind the glanspenis. On the introduction of a bougie a hoiile, there waslittle sensitiveness of the urethra until the prostatic por-tion was reached, where roughness offered a slight resist-ance to the passage of the instrument, indicating a granu-lar ulceration, and extreme tenderness. On withdrawal ofthe instrument pus and mucus were found adhering to it.Microscopical examination did not reveal any gonococci.Upon pressure through the rectum there was very slighttenderness of the gland and little or no swelling. TREATMENT. On the second day after the examination I made anapplication of ointment composed of the oil of
