EuroLex/E/Girl
< EuroLex
- Original language: English
- Original form and meaning: +1.) 'a young and easy female', +1a.) 'a female working in a cabaret'
"This term is well-known, but little used outside compunds (see call~, play~), relating to 'girls' only in a facetious or deprecatory way. The marginal uses make it difficult to predict whether the word will become established more widely." (DEA*, p. 133)
(Note: If the status is not specifically indicated then the word is stylistically neutral and generally used; if earlier meaning and status equals current use the former may be expressed by writing "dito". Cf. also the project guidelines.)
