Exclusive Rights edit

In intellectual property, exclusive rights refers to a right that the owner(s) has on their said property. They are usually granted a monopoly over their intellectual property for a certain amount of time depending on the country that grants it to the owner(s). There are usually three types of exclusive rights when it comes to on intellectual property, copyrights, copylefts, and copycenters.

Copyright edit

Copyrights are exclusive rights granted to the owner(s) of a unique intellectual property. copyrights are usually used used to protect the owner(s) works from being used by other people. Sometimes the owner(s) make an exception an allow for part of their work to be reproduced with permission. Take proprietary software for example. You cannot copy and sell the software, since it has been copyrighted, and you may only get it licensed for your use only. The owner(s) of the copyrighted work limit what you can and what you can't do.

The time of protection for the work depends on the country which granted copyrights. In the United States, the copyright lasts for the author's life plus 70 years[1].
