editChatGPT
editHere is my ChatGPT link. https://chat.openai.com/share/b5c07722-172e-47bb-9580-04b2c142a8db. I learned how to type "Hello World" in C#, the language used in the game engine Unity.

editEvaluating/Editing
editToday I evaluated the Wikipedia article for the game Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. I noticed that a portion of the article did not include details about a certain aspect of the game, which is "OST Chips" that allow you to upgrade your mech, so I edited the article to include it.

editPrinting Press Revolution
editFor my ChatGPT discussion on Media Ages, I discussed the importance of the Printing Press with ChatGPT. https://chat.openai.com/share/ba359035-6184-4bb9-b6f9-c42439abb79b ChatGPT told me that the invention was pivotal in the spreading of information, which was an answer that I expected. I have always known that the invention of the Printing Press was one of the most important inventions in terms of the spreading of information, and I expected ChatGPT to tell me that it was highly important, which it did.

editTaking Away Language
editFor my ChatGPT discussion on Orality, I decided to ask ChatGPT what would happen remain if you took away human language from the brain. https://chat.openai.com/share/114d0cff-e3df-4a3e-b073-68a3db90c8af I was surprised that quite a lot still remains even without language, with things such as motor skills, instincts, and perception still being parts of humans that don't require language. I asked it afterwards if a human could survive today without language, and ChatGPT essentially said that they could not because they couldn't get an education, nor a job if they had no language, which does seem quite obvious but I found it to be an interesting answer either way.

editAI for 3D Modeling
editFor my ChatGPT discussion on a Digital Media and Information in Society topic, I decided to ask it about AI, and whether or not it could be used for 3D modeling. https://chat.openai.com/share/990ad636-82b9-4980-82bd-d0a9b2948982 ChatGPT told me that AI could be used for 3D modeling, which concerned me. As a 3D modeler I don't want to be replaced by AI, so I asked ChatGPT if it was likely that AI would replace real artists. Thankfully it told me no, since human touch/creative genius are important aspects of 3D modeling, which couldn't be replaced by an AI. I asked afterwards if AI has ever made 3D models of it's own, which it indeed has which concerned me once again. However, these models were very rough and based on loose algorithms, so thankfully they weren't of any human quality.

editFind possible articles
editI searched on Wikipedia to find an article about the English language, since we were discussing early literacy so I hoped to get a brief history of the language. I also scrolled to the bottom of the page to find groups that the article were in, such as Fusional languages, which I could read into as well to find more history of the languages that make up English.

editEnglish word count
editFor my ChatGPT discussion on Early Literacy, I asked ChatGPT about how many words were in the English language. https://chat.openai.com/share/32c4c1b8-5d00-45b9-a48f-81c043558c65 ChatGPT told me that there were about 1 million English words, which I doubted because my own research told me otherwise. I asked ChatGPT for a source on their data, which caused ChatGPT to then correct itself and say that there are between 170,000 and 250,000 commonly used English words, and cited sources such as the Oxford Dictionary. This was what I found in my own research, and was surprised when ChatGPT apologized and corrected itself. I was also surprised at how many of these words were borrowed from other languages, such as Latin and French, which I asked ChatGPT as well.

editLinear vs non-linear thought
editFor my ChatGPT discussion on Later Literacy and the Age of Printing, I asked ChatGPT about some of the differences between linear and non-linear thinking and how it played into media. https://chat.openai.com/share/eb4057bd-c228-4fd4-a249-5d57a4fc6074 ChatGPT told me that there were various differences in these ways of thinking, such as how linear thinking is more analytical and is based on reliable cause and effect, whereas non-linear thinking is more based around creativity, and is more complex and is based around interconnected variables. I asked how it played into media, and ChatGPT told me that in the modern day, both forms of thinking can be found in things like film, postmodern literature, and interactive media and games, which made pretty good sense to me because of how those forms of media are so good at sparking thoughts in viewers. I also asked how it tied in to the Printing Press, and it told me that the printing press aloowed for greater exploration of linear reading, accelerated the spread of ideas and allowed for more holistic and interconnected learning.

editAI for 3D animating
editFor my prompt to ask ChatGPT about a topic that intrigues me, I decided to ask ChatGPT more about 3D modeling and AI, more specifically 3D animation since it's different than 3D modeling and has its own aspects. https://chat.openai.com/share/f0c87548-2ab5-4aeb-9968-5c3a3562ba7c ChatGPT told me that AI could be used to animate 3D models, which I found to be interesting since animation seems like quite a difficult thing for an AI to do. I had asked if it had been used at all by any studios, since I figured it wouldn't be practical/would be poorly animated. To my surprise, it turns out that AI animation has indeed been investigated by studios such as Pixar, Dreamworks, Ubisoft, and Epic Games for their movies and video games. The extent to which it was used varies, but many studios have seemingly used it for background characters/other small characters that need less detail, among other things. I just genuinely find it surprising that there are real uses for 3D animation AI in its current state, considering it hasn't been out for very long and other similar AI's are not practical yet.

editAI for 3D modeling as my topic
editI chose AI for 3D modeling as my topic for ChatGPT, which you can see I have an interest in through my previous journals. I was able to find a few academic journals on my own, which I will list here. https://www.jatit.org/volumes/Vol99No6/5Vol99No6.pdf Bebeshko, B., et al. editSemiotics Telephone and telegraph
editHeres my ChatGPT discussion on how Semiotics applys to the telephone and telegraph. https://chat.openai.com/share/95f79147-47b7-4635-a80c-50b22310b169
For the telegraph, things such as a universal morse code, which was a standardized language for people to interpret, were useful in terms of semiotics. The telephone used spoken language rather than morse code, though it still had to be decoded and reinterpreted electronically. Both the telephone and telegraph affected how people communicated, changing their linguistics as well. a

editEffects of TV on Postcolonialism in 50s/60s/70s
editHeres my ChatGPT discussion on how television had an impact on postcolonialism in the 50s/60s/70s. https://chat.openai.com/share/4ee11ac7-8b27-4409-8813-be4b8f27c06e I found the discussion interesting, as television is widely known for spreading ideas. This is no different for postcolonialism, as footage and other media can be shown through TV to show the struggle of postcolonial countries and gain support for their independence.

All of my other work, including 10 ChatGPT discussions, can be found in this journal. I thought these ChatGPT assignments were quite fun, and it was enjoyable to learn about AI and the various topics I asked ChatGPT. I think that if you asked people 20 years ago if this would be possible then they would consider it science-fiction, however today you can truly talk to an AI bot and have a somewhat real conversation, which I find to be super cool. I think it was also nice how I was able to choose what I discussed about for many of my ChatGPT discussions, because I was able to tie it to something I was interested in, which is 3D Modeling. I learned legitimately useful information from these topics, as I plan on being a 3D artist in the future and had a genuine curiosity as to whether AI would have an impact on my future job, which I was able to find info about through my multiple discussions about it with ChatGPT, as well as my final project which I chose AI for 3D modeling as my topic.
I also attended most if not all classes for this semester.
