semiotics I researched are Signs and Symbols The telegraph primarily used Morse code, a system of dots and dashes, to represent letters and numbers. This symbolic system allowed messages to be transmitted as electrical signals. The dots and dashes themselves were signs representing letters, numbers, and even whole words.
Also while reasearced I learned about Keys and Sound The act of tapping a telegraph key produced an audible signal. The tapping itself was a sign, and the sound was a symbol that conveyed meaning.
