Coaching sports
Success is relative
editSuccess in sports is very relative to the level at which one is competing. For some people, like Michael Phelps, 8 Olympic golds defines success. For mere mortals, it may be winning a junior title, improving a league standing or even beating a previous best effort. Success also depends on the sport in which one is competing. Olympic gold is the Holy Grail for all 100m sprinters, but it doesn't compare to a World Cup win in association football (soccer). However, the desire for success in sport remains constant.
The CAGE criteria
editWikiversity has designed the CAGE criteria for sporting success. All of the following elements must be in place for maximal sporting success:
- Commitment
- Ability
- Guidance
- Enjoyment
Aim of this learning project
editThis learning project will provide teaching on guiding sportspeople in the areas of commitment, ability and enjoyment. Coaches and athletes should be involved in this project together as the CAGE criteria applies to both sides of the coaching relationship. Below is a list of the different sports that currently have learning projects under construction. If you wish to contribute to this project please read the manual of style
