Redirects to anchors are usually created when the anchor covering a particular term which has insufficient independent scope to write a section about, much less a whole article, but the term is nonetheless important within the field, and useful to link from other articles in the field of expertise. Such redirects allow a reader to search for and find useful information about the term and similar related material of the defining article. Anchors may also be used when section names change, so that redirects to sections are not broken.
Anchors may also be used in tables; however there are some restrictions where only the id=
attribute can be used as a table anchor. See the documentation on the anchor template page for details.
While technically, section headers are "anchors", redirects to such headers should be sorted to Category:Redirects to sections using {{R to section}} instead.
