This project builds on the outcomes of a completed ‘Palliative Care Grant’ (research project), “Developing and testing a strategy to enhance a palliative approach and care continuity for people who have dementia” (2011).
This project sought to translate research outcomes, processes and resources into practice: to develop, test and evaluate a strategy to enhance a palliative approach and care continuity for people who have dementia to improve staff capability to provide quality end of life care for people with dementia in residential aged care environments and to support their family and caregivers.
This program is based on principles of adult teaching and learning. The train-the trainer resource (manual, USB, teaching resources) is designed for use by a qualified health professional in the workplace.

- The manual provides information and resources in change management, establishing a community of practice, palliative approach to dementia care and also contains validated teaching resources.
- The first pilot phase is complete. You can view an hour long video presentation by the project coordinator and some of the participants by following this link to the DTSC website WA October Seminar. The amended resource will be trialled in Western Australia and South Australia in 2013 and available for release in mid 2013.
