Challenge Characteristics

edit

Challenges work on real business issues and the exploration of new strategic business opportunities

Challenges are focused on important and complex problems for which there are no known solutions and that require creativity and innovation to solve. Ideal action learning projects are those that are significant, urgent, attainable and valued by the agency.

If the sponsor already has a specific solution for the problem, the team would only be able to serve as an implementation task force rather than the learning experience it is intended to be.

Business Challenges

edit

Business challenges are issues that are without a clear and obvious solution. They are provided and sponsored by top leadership. They are almost always in the form of challenging dilemmas that demand clarification, exploration, and analysis. They are usually strategic in nature and bold in scope because these tend to be the nature of issues at Board level. Examples are: o How to enter emerging markets where there are growth opportunities o How to accelerate growth in mature markets o What are some key future trends and how do we respond o How do we stimulate innovation? o What are some critical elements that we need to consider for our strategic and sustainable growth?
