Bible/King James/Documentary Hypothesis/Priestly source/Levitical object descriptions
<Bible, English, King James, According to the documentary hypothesis | Priestly source
According to the documentary hypothesis, the torah was redacted together from a number of earlier source texts. The largest of these is referred to as the "Priestly source", due to its concentration on details which would be of interest to the Aaronid priesthood.
The reconstructed text of this source contains several elements which are separable from the narrative, including several laws, and descriptions of how rituals should be carried out. It is sometimes believed that these were originally separate documents held as priestly records, or simple observations. One of these separable elements is the description of the tabernacle, vestments, and associated objects.
This is expressed at Exodus 25, 26, 27, 28, 30:1-6, 30:17-25, and 30:34-36. A passage appearing to be based on it then appears at Exodus 31:1-11, and is then followed by a description of the construction of the objects at Exodus 35, 36, 37, 38, and 39, which almost completely duplicates the earlier description.
While the following text is based on that appearing in the relevant parts of Exodus, it does not duplicate it exactly, but reconstructs it from the point of view of an eye witness. The numbering of the text does not necessarily reflect that of the original
