Archaeometry or Scientific Archaeology
Archaeometry or Scientific Archaeology is collaboration of sciences between archaeology, physics, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, earth sciences, material science, mathematics, statistics and computing. Archaeometry observes and identifies artefacts in terms of dating, artefact studies, man and his environment, mathematical methods, remote sensing and conservation concerns. Scientific methods are used to enlighten specific questions from the archaeological data-set. Mathematical methods can be used in terms of statistical interpretation, arteficial intelligence, mathematical modelling when dealing with huge amounts of data. Remote sensing techniques are used to locate archaeological sites by the aid of aerial photogrammetry, satellite sensor data. Geophysical prospection is a more detailed study to spot out the underground artefacts with non-destructive methods regarding a known ancient settlement present in a certain land. Magnetic, resistivity, electromagnetic techniques and ground probing radar techniques are used to map ancient ruins in a GIS-integrated 3D model.
