In the wild, this fish comes from soft or very soft and slightly acidic water. In an aquarium, some attempt to mimic these water conditions is necessary. A pH between 6.0 and 7.5, hardness up to 15° general hardness, and temperature of 23–27°C (73–81°F) are ideal.[1]
The Costello tetra is an omnivore with a preference for animal foods, such as small worms, crustaceans, and insect larvae. In an aquarium they eat good-quality fish flakes readily. They benefit from a variety of foods, such as live and frozen foods, including bloodworms.
