There are three hymns based off the text of Psalm 23. The first is "Surely Goodness and Mercy" with text and music by John W. Peterson and Alfred B. Smith. The text was altered and set to music in a more simple, understandable way. While it is based off of Psalm 23, it is not the exact text. Second is "The Lord's My Shepherd, I'll Not Want." The music was written by Jessie S. Irvine and arranged by David Grant. The text is as close to the original text as possible with a few alterations to fit the rhythm of the hymn. The third hymn is "The New 23rd". The music and text is written by Ralph Carmichael. Here the original text was simplified and set to music in a less traditional way.
