Thoughts

1. turn the project namespace (currently Wikiversity) into "Meta" or something like that.

2. Maybe start thinking about elminating the topic and school namespace again - merging them into the main namespace (The preceding unsigned comment was added by Eme (talk • contribs) )

Linux - teaching and learning

OK. I'm back. The yeoman in me has proposed a Linux awareness campaign to coagulate all things Linux and FLOSS on Wikiversity, including BSD. I have access to a mountain of old boxen via a ministry I'm working with, so I've started loading as many flavors as I can. So far I've got debian and ubuntu in, and will be going down the list. I'm working with the BSDs also, particularly FreeBSD. Anyone else game? • CQ 12:53, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is great to have these things in here. I there will be many teachers and learners for Linux-related topics. As for me I fal more to the second category :) Unfortunatelly I have hardly enough time for maintenance related work... I just wanted to say that your effort is very appreciated. CC-nc are not allow in Wikiversity or Wikimedia site same with no source and no licence file

I tag some CC-nc File with the {{delete}} template. It would be desirable to perform the maintenance work to erase those files. That is so for any files that do not comply with the rule of the GFDL and CC-by-sa as the file with no license. Thanks. Crochet.david 07:18, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

yet another virtual university

Someone recently mentioned "Virtual Seminar University" to me, and I had to admit I didn't know anything about it. Is the Virtual Seminar University something that would be helpful to Wikiversity students? job market

I propose a Wikiversity:Job market page for people seeking employment. The page would primarily be useful for people whose contributions to Wikiversity could be seen as a portfolio of their work. An advantage for Wikiversity would be an added motivation for contributors, a disadvantage might be that people might be hired because of their work, which could make the continuation of the work a commercial product. I think the latter is an acceptable risk, especially because the demand to prevent it doesn't seem to be ethical. I don't think having a formal "job market" helps Wikiversitians or the Wikiversity community. And while it's true that WV isn't a place for advertising, I don't think there is anything wrong with saying "I've contributed to/edited/revised/commented on these learning projects/pages/etc". In todays realities, everyone is always "looking for work". The question is, can a portfolio of the courses/learning projects you've participated in be represented and presented? And can you let people know you are active and overtly seeking employment?

I think the answer to both of these questions is yes. Everyone has a home page, and if you choose to sign up it can be exclusive to you. I think it is ok to mention you are looking for work there -- maybe even have a category/template/infobox that lets people know. I also think your home page can be used to highlight your contributions -- whether for employment or just to remember what you've done. I wouldn't recommend posting your CV and other info there, but you could point to it if people want to see. I'm not sure how many headhunters come to WV looking for candidates though, so it might be better to point them here from outside. Historybuff 15:25, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
