The HonourablesEdit

According to the O.E.D.,

‘Honourable’ (abbreviated Hon. adj.1) is given to the younger sons of earls, to sons and daughters of viscounts and barons, to maids of honour, all Justices of the High Court (not being Lord Justices nor Lords of Appeal), to Lords of Session, the Lord Provost of Glasgow (during office), and especially to members of Governments or of Executive Councils in Commonwealth countries. ... Honourable is also applied to the House of Commons collectively, honourable member or honourable gentleman being applied to individual members. It is also used for certain organizations or corporate bodies.

Most Honourable is applied to Marquesses, and to the Order of the Bath and the Privy Council (collectively).

Right Honourable is "Applied to a peer below the rank of marquess, or (occasionally) the sons and daughters of a peer holding a courtesy title" and "Applied to a Privy Counsellor ..., and various other officials, such as the Lord Mayors of London, York, and Belfast, the Lord Provosts of Edinburgh and Glasgow, and the Prime Ministers of certain Commonwealth countries."

Members of the Armed Forces Invited to Royal Social FunctionsEdit

This complex group of people is made up of the sons of aristocrats, perhaps on their way to a title, as well as members of military organizations who were invited to an event for some particular reason. Individuals might appear in the rankings anywhere, depending on the social position of their families; sometimes they appear in the rankings if their place is known or they appear that way in the newspaper reports. When they are present as members of the military in the newspaper reports, they are typically listed before the "misters" in descending order by military rank, with the army appearing before the navy. Further complicating this list, which is ahistorical in the sense that it comes from a number of lists made in different years, is the fact that individuals will have risen through the ranks over time.
