اُردوُ

Welcome to the Urdu Department at Wikiversity, part of the Center for Foreign Language Learning and the School of Language and Literature.

Urdu is a dialect of the Hindustani language group native to Pakistan and northern India. The standard dialect is the official language of the Pakistani government along with English. Urdu was formed by the injection of Persian into local Indian dialects, especially Sanskrit. It is written in the Nastaliq Script, a derivative of Arabic, and uses Persian, Hindi and some Arabic words to form its vocabulary.
